THE SOIL

Welcome to Palm Cellars.
We are a  small, boutique winery. We specialize in Zinfandel and Rhone varietals.
We source fruit from many of the top vineyards west of downtown Paso Robles. While Paso is not new to wine growing, we think its full potential is just starting to show. Westside is where its at.

While tasting thru wines made by Justin Smith (Saxum) and his father some years back, I was intrigued by the uniqueness and quality of these wines. Something exciting was happening here. I began to preach this region to any that would listen. Since that time many of my friends have made a number of exceptional wines. In no order, Villa Creek, Linne Calodo, Garretson and of course Justin's juice. Eventually the itch got too strong, and the opportunity presented itself. Yes, a wine lovers dream come true. To source fruit from top vineyards and spend the day making, and tasting wines with my friends. We are firmly behind the people who are doing it right and whose sights are set high. Wine Spectator editor Mat Kramer recently wrote " utterly convinced that west of 101 in Paso Robles can become one of the world's great Syrah sites." I would also add Grenache. Mourverde and of course Zinfandel!.

The 2004 vintage was the last year in a string of drought years.. The vines remained healthy, despite the lack of rain. The wine is very powerful with intense boysenberry/cassis fruit flavors. It has great balance and is pulled together by just the right amount of acidity. My favorite so far.
